So the last few days have been...well. A little mind-numbing and frustrating at work, but I did my best to get things done. It was actually good to meet with one of my supervisors on Wednesday and get a jump on that project she wants me to do. I'm not a journalistic writer at all, so I picked a section of the article that best lends itself to the talents of a fiction writer, so I'm pretty excited. It's going to be tough going, but I did some sneaky ninja work and, thanks to the wonders of a Mac, did cool things for my boss. I don't know what it is about me and my Mac that makes people think I'm much better with computers than I am, but that's that.

Wednesday was a pretty dull day at work, but we had our kicks and giggles. A very nice sheriff helped me out with my massive survey of doom (I found 80-odd more law enforcement agencies I hadn't previously known existed, which was a little despair-inducing), and while speaking to him I learned about the law-enforcement equivalent of ebay. Instead of having sheriffs' auctions, law enforcement agencies now sell the contents of their property rooms on the internet. And you can get some seriously killer deals on there, especially for stuff like jewelry. Angela won an amazing auction just today on a pretty platinum and opal necklace.

The big thing last night was the Tekken Tournament. I made cupcakes so as to use the last of my frosting, and then I went to Angela's. Kent came over for a bit with Melissa (who "played" in the tournament as well, as best as a two-year-old can), and then Will M. came on over, which was good times. We made s'mores over the stove, including with Kent's new recipe of using dark chocolate or reese's pieces instead of ordinary chocolate. Angela ended up button-mashing me to death. Will, on the other hand, took quite the ego beating. But it was good times, and it sounds like we're getting together quite the group to go to Shakespeare on the Green this Saturday.

Today was an all right day. I got a lot done toward the whole 80 additional law enforcement agencies and then a jump on the article project. I was the unofficial cupcake girl, giving out leftover cupcakes to students, office staff, and professors alike. Jenny and I had a huge giggle over trying to friend each other on facebook since both of our profiles were locked down tighter than Fort Knox. There was some taunting over facebook in regards to the cupcakes, and I got to talk to Kara, which is always good.

And then I went to a college world series baseball game with Amber. We saw one drunk girl get carted off, a poor man collapse of heat stroke several times (while the paramedics were trying to help him out), we people-watched a lot, and Craig H. ended up helping us find seats. We had awesome summer baseball game food, and we got to see a Grand Slam, which was pretty cool. I love going to baseball games with Amber. On the way back to the car, some guy waved at us and said "Hi, Amber," and I waved back, and then it occurred to both of us that he might have been waving at Amber, but neither of us recognized him, so we're still mystified.

And I'm going to do my best to make it to the ninjitsu class tomorrow night. I'm pretty excited. I loved sparring when I was younger, and I don't do nearly enough of it, and maybe if I take up a martial art the impetus of improvement will encourage me to exercise more. Not that I really exercise all that extra as a belly dancer. Most days after work I come back to my place and lay down half an hour on the drums (talked to Will N. last night and he says he has songs for us), then I eat and just...chill. Even though I'm using my laptop all day at work. I need to dance more and exercise more and craft more, even though the evenings is usually when I take the opportunity to catch up on writing exercises.

But summer is going well. There have been bumps in the road, but I'm making the most of it. I just need to get a good routine going in my life and stick to it.

The new Safari does irk me greatly, though.

It keeps shutting down on me for no good reason.

Also, my dad is gone again. He was home for barely a month, and I called him last night to say goodbye. I love him a lot. This whole week, since it was his birthday and father's day is coming up, I've been thinking a lot about him. The older I get, the more I appreciate who and what he is, even if he is imperfect.
