Day 716: Random Notes
Jan. 18th, 2009 11:40 pmI notice things sometimes that I tell myself I'll mention to someone or write down or something, and sometimes I do tell someone about them, but still, some of them bear writing.
The first note is pretty fangirl and weird-o-meter at the same time. While we were heading into the airport on Tuesday, I was walking with dad, and I passed this couple, an older white man and his younger-looking (because looks can be deceiving) Asian wife with him. She was Japanese, on first glance, although she may have been Korean, but we were walking in opposite directions, so I didn't get to look at her long. I did take a long good look at their little boy, though. He was absolutely adorable, maybe five or six, toddling after them with a blanket tucked determinedly under one arm. And, I swear to the stars above, that kid was Nagi. Seriously, like six-year-old Nagi you see on Kapital in those flashback moments. He was so, so adorable, and if someone had drawn him as an anime character, he would've been kid!Nagi. He had the fluffy hair that was dark, dark brown, and he had the solemn face, and ohmigosh!fangirl!squee! he was so cute. And uncanny. I saw a boy, once, who was an anime character in person - looked like the random shows-up-at-the-pervy-monk's temple dude with the furry collar coat from the manga Ghost!, but this was different. That kid was Nagi come to life. And it was creepy-awesome. Just thought the world should know.
Also, at the bookstore, the cashier really liked my CTR ring. Usually when someone tells me they like a ring I'm wearing, it's the one Marty calls 'major bling', but and so I looked down at my hands, and she asked me if it was my initials. At which point I told her what the letters stood for (choose the right) and it was a daily reminder to not be evil. And she said she liked it very much, and she ought to get one too. So I told her that she could probably order one off the internet in any design she wants. Interestingly enough, new girl at church today, Karen, has a CTR ring just like mine. It made me smile.
And, the SHGP moment of the week (and it's been so long since I've broken that out, hasn't it?) was when Ryan caught me after church. He sort of cordoned me off from Jessie - who I was asking about T&E I - and lowered his voice and leaned in a bit. His eyes were shining and he said, "I have an exclusive invitation for you." He has a way of looking devilishly mischievous and childishly excited all at once, and this was one of those moments, so I nodded and smiled. As it turns out, he too was an English major (something my friends probably do not care to be reminded of again) and he got his emphasis as a playwright. Go figure - never really known a playwright before. And on Saturday he's going to break out one of his play's and a bunch of us are going to read it together. My mom thinks that's a bit cracked, but I remember me and Megan reading scenes from "Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead" to each other, and four of us poking through "Joe Calarco's R&J" and occasionally doing our favorite scenes from Shakespeare, and play reading can be a heck of a lot of fun, so I'm excited. Also, since I am rampantly paranoid about letting other people see stuff I write (fanfic not included - that's specifically for an audience, whereas the stuff I write for myself is, well, for me) I probably took it as more than it's worth, that he's willing to share his writing. Also, he sat next to me in Sunday School. I'm also most definitely reading into that too much as well, even though he doesn't usually sit in the center rows. Mother was pleased about it, if reading a bit too much into it too, and Dad, who is convinced I shall never marry, at least gives me the benefit of the doubt when I offer excuses about a non-romantic hang-out (because I really can't use the term platonic anymore, seriously).
But those were random cool things this week. I'm trying to get away from constantly posting self-recriminations about not doing enough stuff for school or life or whatever.
But I will catch up on my writing. Seriously.
House tomorrow night. Whee!
