Day 587: spring break is warm
Mar. 7th, 2008 12:11 amThat's right. It's pretty warm and fuzzy here. I can go out in the sun without a jacket or a sweater. I do like standing in the sun and just basking a bit. Makes me feel like a cat. I've been doing lots of mad things. Got my taxes settled with my CPA - I have a CPA now. How boring and grown-up is that? I got my eyes checked and other random things health-related. And I've worked on my memo. The rewrite is done. From here it's all fine-tuning and other nonsense things. Which may keep me up egregiously late on Saturday night, even when I lose an hour. But I'll do what I have to do.
The evenings have been calm, just the way I like them, almost the way I remember them as a kid. When I was a kid we'd all gather in mom and dad's room and curl up at the foot of the bed. Shaz would draw, or chatter, or otherwise attempt to entertain us - and she can be funny when she wants to be. The rest of us would read, just sort of sit and enjoy each other's company, and of course mom would ply us with snacks. I suppose it's a sign of the times when we still gather in mom and dad's room but watch TV instead. Well, they watch TV. If I like the show, I watch. Most evenings this week I've worked on the legal writing memo of suck. Last night Mom, Dad, and I played some Uno, like we did when I was a kid. Dad won most of the games, but by the time we'd called it quits each of us had won a game. It was fun.
Dad came in to say goodbye before he left, just like he did when I was a kid. Only my door had accidentally locked itself in the night (it does that) so he woke me up fiddling with the lock. It was all good, though. Mom and I spent all morning and part of the afternoon helping my sister file her divorce papers. Luckily enough, I realized that the papers were auto-filled (because they used the online court document assistance thing) for the wrong jurisdiction. It's a good thing I paid attention at Brad's office and in Civil Procedure, because lack of jurisdiction is a big no-no. We tried to re-file the online versions of the document so they would come out for the right district, but it was a no-go, so I ended up typing a whole bunch of court headers from scratch so they were for the right district. While my sisters was off getting her nails done. My mother and I joked, in the gall of bitterness, that she couldn't graduate from high school without us, and now she can't get divorced without us.
After that was done I took a hack at my memo, and then took a nap with the puppy (we call him that even though he's not a puppy anymore, because he's so tiny). Mom and turned on the TV to watch Gems TV - because she says she can get some really awesome deals on jewelry on there - and made predictions about prices and commented on some of the pieces. Some of which were hideous. It reminded me of the time I stayed up all night with Ericka looking at old costume jewelry online and laughing our heads off at some of the hideous stuff people thought they should wear (most of which was made from bakelite). It was simple, snarky fun.
Justin made it down safe, and we had dinner (mom always makes awesome dinner). Then we hung around, talked, and went in the jacuzzi to relax a bit. He's asleep across the hall now. I'm awake and talking to Schu before I go to bed.
But I think I'm going to have a good last couple of days here.
