It was warmer today. When I went outside, I wasn't afraid I would be overcome by frostbite if I lingered too long. I spent the morning trolling Westlaw for sources for my legal writing project. After all, I did declare today Super Research Saturday. I watched the end of Weiss Kreuz Kapitel and then watched the OVA because I could and because the scene where all four boys are killing each other is cool. I was a bit disappointed about the lack of blood in Kapitel, considering how much killing goes down each episode. I still love that series a lot. During the watching, I noticed a curious beeping sound. At first I thought it was from the OVA - after all, there are often beeping sounds like sirens during army rush scenes. But then all the soldiers were dead and there was no need for the beeping. So I peeked my head into the hallway and sure enough, there were flashing lights and the fire alarm going off. The only other person I saw peeking her head out was Stacy the Neighbour from §B. We grabbed our keys and shuffled out the fire escape like good girls, wondering where our other floor-mates were the entire time. I was in grungy clothes and hadn't combed my hair, but at least I had real clothes and shoes. No jacket, but that was all right, because it wasn't cold. Poor Stacy was only in her pajamas. When we got into the lobby we asked if there was a real fire. As it turned out, there wasn't. Some kid had poked the button. So I checked the mail - I got my Con Law CALI letter - and went back to studying. Once I had all my sources picked out I went to the library to print off the cases and look up the secondary sources in print - because some of the sources had to be in print, by assignment rules. Many stressed 1L's looking to get their research done. I did it, then returned to my place. I had restrung Omi, but the strings had to settle and I had to tune them again. So I cleaned my apartment (which now includes an extra ten minutes for cleaning the Machine) and then re-tuned Omi. I tested out the new strings, and they sounded good, but my bow kept dragging on other strings. I knew it'd been a month since I'd played, but my playing shouldn't have deteriorated that badly. Of course, when I'd restrung Omi, I'd put the bridge on backwards. Figures. I spent the rest of the afternoon working on that Valentine's story - which is just not coming out the way I want it to and it's frustrating me - and I took a nap. Woke in time to pick out an outfit for the dance and attempt some make-up. Can't do eye shadow, and the lipstick made my mouth look weird, so it was eyeliner and nothing more.

The dance was good fun. Aaron picked me up, and then we grabbed Jordan and went to pick his date up (who I think was Aaron's old girlfriend, but it really wasn't as awkward as I thought it would be) and then we had dinner. I think the institute teachers cooked. They and the bishops and their wives did the serving. It was great - salad, chicken alfredo and green beans (which I dutifully ate) and dinner rolls, and then a seriously awesome selection of cheesecake. Me, Aaron, Cassie (Jordan's date) and Dustin (the air force counterintelligence guy) fell into a conversation about all our old favorite video games and kiddie cartoons. It made me smile - I'm not the only nerd after all.

The dance itself was at the Kansville Tabernacle just over the river in Iowa, an old wooden building. The dancing was good - lots of party favorites, like the cha cha slide, the Macarena, Ice Ice Baby, and Jump Jive and Wail, and then lots of slow songs. More than at a usual dance, but since this was all about the dates, there were lots more slow songs. I waltzed with Jordan (who steered me safely but kept forgetting I was a whole foot shorter than him) and swung with Aaron (I did most of my slow songs with him). I danced with that one guy who's a history major and is in the army, and I danced with Dustin. The more I get to know him, the less intimidating he is. He's a really nice guy, and he doesn't freak me out as much. Although one wrong move, and yeah, he'll bring on the jiujitsu. I took lots of pictures (though there aren't many pictures of me) and talked and laughed.

All in all, good times.
