So the last time I wrote was when I got home from spending a weekend with my old crew, known affectionately as the Pack after Kyle had to try to rip out Lance's throat, because, if you want to get into the dreaming, someone had to be the alpha male.

The next day was spent out with Mum. Lots of clothes shopping, because living alone has made me realize that I don't have nearly enough nice girly clothes, and that wearing the same four outfits to church over and over again was becoming suspicious to the other girls (like the guys ever notice). I hate clothes shopping as a general rule, but I am an efficient shopper, and we got me some new church/work shoes (the old ones were battered from chasing up to the courthouse all the time), a dress, some skirts and blouses, and then some cheap long-sleeved t-shirts that I can wear under other shirts to stave off the cold. My Mum loves me lots.

Also, we did that doctor appointment thing for me. As BenTen discovered when she came to visit, I have to sleep hooked up to a machine. It's taken several nights of adjusting, or waking up in the middle of the night to slap the machine into submission, but I can sleep hooked up to it even if I look like an alien fighter pilot in that mask. Friday was spent chilling with the parents. First we went to the temple to do baptisms for the dead, which was pretty cool, me, Mum, and Dad working as a family. I know Dad likes it when I do baptisms because I'm light and cooperative about being dunked. (Mum has a phobia about being dunked because when she was a kid her brothers left her stranded on a buoy in the middle of the ocean and the coast guard had to rescue her.) Then I went in search of books and materials to learn how to do tatting. Compared to knitting and crocheting it's not such a useful skill, but if I want to make my own lace, well, there it is. I'll be able to do it. Once I learn how.

Friday was the solstice, and I had ever intention of staying up all night writing, but mostly I failed and so I just gave up and went to bed. Because I hadn't been sleeping well.

Saturday was spent chasing around for material for a kimono (it's too expensive and we'll wait till it goes on sale). I also bought crocheting supplies because my friend Jane is having a baby and I wanted to make her some baby booties, but all my usual crocheting gear is back in Omaha. After one bad bootie (and there's always one bad one) I figured out the trick for the booties in this book (much easier than the ones in the other book) and so one is done, the second one on its way. BenTen came down on Saturday. She missed the shuttle in Cedar, and Logan was going to drive her down, but his car slid on some ice and smashed into the curb, so his car is out of commission, and so Weber and Aaron drove her down instead. Weber and Aaron ended up staying for supper (Dad made leek soup, Mum made cheesecake) and then BenTen and I went to the movies with my sister (who is getting divorced and is a whirlwind of moods). We saw the Golden Compass because the movie my sister wanted to see was all sold out. Afterwards Ericka and I chilled in the den, planning our new year's eve party and making a half-hearted attempt at RPing online.

On Sunday Ericka came to church with us for a bit, though we spent most of our time hiding in the library. Ericka and I skipped out before RS because Ericka doesn't like it. We ran into the brothers Grisham on the way out, which was strange and awkward but I was very personable, because I'm always more well-mannered when in a nice skirt. Ericka, Mum, and I made lots of Christmas candy, and then we took Ericka to the shuttle so she could go home. After she left, we had supper, and then we watched a Christmas concert on DVD while I made baby booties.

It was a good night.

And today, well, only I can go to my old boss looking for help getting a job at a different law firm or with a judge and leave with a fair prospect of summer employment with him as well as some litigation to work on during this break. If I clock my hours and get this motion for summary judgment reply done, I get paid. Only me - go to say hi to the girls and leave with work. When he described the project to me he talked to me as if I understood all the legal jargon he threw at me (which I did understand, thankfully) and it was strange. I'm not a secretary anymore. It was nice, but strange, and flattering in a way.

And now I'm going to go shovel gravel with my parents.

Merry Christmas to all.
