Day 485: Escapades of a Pack
Jul. 23rd, 2007 04:57 pmI went up to Cedar City Saturday afternoon. As Seirra was working her way through DH and BenTen was sleeping, I sat and attempted to type up more of that murder mystery. I met Chani's mom, who is very cool and very much a source of Chani's uber-strength and coolness. Chani and I traded fun pictures that amused us, and we talked, and I took pictures of her in her cool coat that her mom found at the Catholic thrift shop. Really awesome stuff ends up on those racks - we should go more often.
Curry came by, and he and Chani made us a ramen-and-French-bread feast, so we hung out in the kitchen and chatted and had college food. Once BenTen awoke she was a bit miffed that we'd fed without her, so Chani, BenTen, and I went to get food. We talked in the car, ate some, and then it was decided that the gang would gather at the Curry residence to hang out and watch the Number 23. We had to wait till Logan got off work, because he brought the movie, which must have been the unrated version, because it was much more porn-tacular than what I remembered in theatres. Much more. Which made things a bit awkward, because we were watching the movie with Curry's parents, but they were cool. I met Curry's brothers and his friend Teevo. I also met Curry's awesome black dog. I petted it while we watched "Whose Line," and if I stopped petting it'd nudge my hand and demand more attention. I fell asleep partway through the film.
The others roused me, and we toddled off to Park Discovery in the middle of the night. We played ninja tactics, which involved one person staking out a platform with a flashlight while the rest of us had to make it onto the platform without being caught by the light. We played on the swings and talked and had fun. Then the boys who went with Teevo got busted by the cops (we're not meant to be in the park after dark, as BenTen's busted shoulder and my twisted ankle do attest). The rest of us ran and waited, and then we hung out at WalMart for food.
While at WalMart I spotted a bunch of boys who, at first glance, might have been Polygamist boys, because they wore long sleeves and dark jeans and were tanned, like they worked a lot of construction, but their clothes were a bit patchy and they kept staring at me and Sei as if they'd never seen girls. Also, there were no women with them, but they were grocery shopping. I think they might have been a pack of Lost Boys. One of them was sorta cute.
We ended up back at the apartment eating cookies and talking, and then Curry, Teevo, and the littler Curry Brothers took off for home. Sei retreated to her room for some more DH, and Chani went to bed, leaving me, BenTen, and Logan to finish off the game we started on the way home from Warped Tour. BenTen offered me some Diet Coke with Splenda to help keep me awake. The poisonous flavour jolted me out of my stupor, and then I only sipped it occasionally to keep myself on my toes. Logan is a fantastic player, really professional and straight during awkward scenes. I hadn't messed with him in a bit and thought he could do with something of a wake-up call.
The next day I hung out with Chani and Sei, and when BenTen woke up we took ourselves to see Hairspray.
Awesome movie. James Marsden is awesome. So is Christopher Walken. And, all right, I give in just a smidge - Zach Efron is attractive as well. But UNDERAGE. (Bad Nagi!)
Afterwards I went to sit while BenTen was at fighter practice. I met Alina, talked to Amanda, Sarah, Ivanya, and met Dawn Rae. One by one the girls retreated as it got more overcast and threatened to rain. BenTen, who had busted her shoulder the night before, backed out of a round of Meanest, and when the thunder turned loud she and Sarah decided to break for it. I went to hug Logan good-bye and was strangely flattered when the other guys called out, "What, you're not going to say good-bye to us?" Luckily enough they were mostly guys I knew, like Patrick and TJ and Aaron and Samurai Bry.
I drove home and crashed for a nap, during which my parents bickered loudly. I pretended not to hear them and attempted to keep up a stream of useless chatter during dinner. Afterwards, Mom and I got down to watch Die Hard, and I was surprised when Dad joined us. He also laughed at a really weird moment, at something I never thought he would laugh at. Also, Alan Rickman is pretty hot. He and Hugh Laurie are the only older men I would go for. After all that anime, I'm way too much of a sucker for an awesome voice.
Today work was all right - it was just us girls, as Cheryl is still on vacation and Brad was in and out of meetings. We talked and had fun. Yvonne recommended that I read Edith Wharton's "Ethan Frome." I told Amanda of the therapeutic value of comedy songs during frustrating work days.
When I came home I took care of mynew account. All that's left for me is to order new checks and new books. I didn't get my section notice, but I did get some more summer reading from Creighton.
Best of all, I GOT MY DIPLOMA.
That's right - it's here. It was smaller than I thought it would be, but I was absurdly pleased to see the "Summa Cum Laude" under "Bachelor of Arts."
It's official, boys and girls. Nagi graduated from uni.
And now, I have a literary addiction to feed.
