Day 355: Scoobies and mountains
Sep. 23rd, 2006 11:37 amDel alwayas has the best ideas ever. So yesterday, after everyone was done with school and work, we went up to the moutains.
First, however, I must speak upon my own valiant efforts toward staying awake through three hours of school and one hour of work. The night before I had the most terrible, guilt-inducing dream about letting a fish, er, breathe to death. Outside the water. (What does one call the antithesis of drowning, which is dying due to dryness? For fish I think it's asphyxiation, at any rate.) It was all very bizarre and business-like, but I let an innocent little goldfish die. I felt so horrible, and then at around four in the a.m. BenTen had a panic attack. We've always told her that it's okay to wake us up when that happens, because we can help calm her down. And that was all good and dandy. Until I couldn't really get back to sleep. I kept drifting in and out of this horrible dream that involved an assassin recruitment program masquerading as - and here's the rub - cheerleader camp. I kid you not. I'm sure those who know me can imagine why this horrified me so. And then, just as the dream was getting good, I woke up. In the most vague sense. I panicked when I couldn't find my tie, because I just knew there were uniform checks in the main hall that morning. I slept through most of the walk to school, and it's quite the miracle that I didn't die. I survived through classes, an hour of work, and then Dickens - wherein I said nothing, because when I cannot be bothered to sound American I have to repeat myself constantly, and the effort it takes to sound American is proportionate to the amount of sleep one has had. I was going to go to lunch with Marty, but then I had left my ID in my jeans back at the apartment, so I walked home - death-glaring anyone who looked at me too funny - and promptly collapsed on my bed, shoes and all. I managed to rouse myself enough to remove shoes and things when Del got home. After all of us had had proper naps, we dressed, collected Seirra, Marty, and Alison, and drove up the canyon to a camp. It was great.
We set up a fire - scavenging for kindling as a team - and had hot dogs, marshmallows, s'mores, hot chocolate, chips and salsa, soda, water, and told ghost stories and what not. It was awesome. It was bloody cold half the time, so we hung around the fire and talked and laughed, and Del took pictures. I was hungry, so I had three or four hotdogs, which I proudly roasted over the fire. I wasn't so into the smores, although I did like the marshmallows on graham crackers. Del was the Awesome and bought the hot chocolate with the mini marshmallows. It was awesome, just all of us, hanging out and having fun. We cruised down the mountain - Marty and Seirra were in my car - listening to music and having fun. Once we got back to the apartment, we just sort of hung around and talked for a bit until Del conned us into a vicious card game of Nertz. At first it seemed like Alisona and Ericka were going to clean house, or perhaps Marty and Del because Del has the most game experience. It ended up being me and Seirra, though more due to Seirra's quickness than my skill. It was one hell of a vicious game. It's one of the card games the girls play at the facility, but this wasn't like any game they've ever played, with all the cursing and the death threats, but it was intense nonetheless. We took ourselves out for icy treats at DQ and Maverik (because I'm cheap) before Del went to work, and hung out together, getting high on sugar. It was awesome. The rest of us hung out together after Del left. Alison and Marty went first, and then Seirra and I hung out and talked like nerds for a while before she went home.
It seems that I am more motivated to eat if I must first roast my food over a fire.
That was one of the best days ever.
