Day 339: Back to School
Aug. 28th, 2006 10:01 pmYes, an utterly cliche title for this time of year. But I made it through my first day of the semester just fine. It took longer than I thought it would to get to campus, so sometime this week I will utilize the nifty bicycle, because three days a week my book load is absolutely terrible. This is the first time I've ever been in the business building, and a whole bunch of girls stood around wondering if the classroom hadn't been changed, as Aton's classes tend to get moved at the last minute. Marty showed up, and for a moment or two there he seemed like he would be the only boy in the class. More boys drifted in slowly, but I convinced him to come sit with me, and it looks like this class will be something of a challenge even for a 2000 level class. Criminal justice will be...interesting. The professor is new, and young, and perky, and looked rather scandalized when I told him I play D&D in my spare time. For the criminology class I get to analyze social deviance in a film, which will be awesome, and also write a paper that profiles a famous criminal from history. I am down with the Dracula right now. At lunch I was surprised by Niko, Chibi Scott's girlfriend. We ran into the Chibi at Wal Mart on Sunday evening because I had no binders, so I needed supplies (I was dumb and left them at home). Niko and I sat at lunch and talked about Gundam Wing, and our favorite fanfics, and it was a surprisingly awesome bonding conversation. I ran into Rodney a couple of times, and he was generally a jerk. The Dickens class is looking fairly abysmal, but my professor is so enthusiastic about it that I can't really fault him. I also spent a couple of hours in the writing center getting to know my coworkers and generally feeling pretty damn good about this job. I started to get work done on my certification and just bonded with them. I like that.
I said goodbye to the girls on my last morning, and they were very sweet about it. I am looking forward to Shakespeare.
After work I came home, and the girls told me that the landlord was bringing us pizza, so I gave him the rent check, and we had pizza. Del provided us with some cheesecake, and after some massive technological innovation we ended up watching Sky High. It was entirely too predictable, but I must agree with BenTen's observation that Steven Strait, who plays Warren Peace, is a very beautiful man. Wow. I enjoyed that. Alison and Seirra came by, so in a fit of girliness we watched Practical Magic. I love it.
