Day 326: Home and family
Jul. 21st, 2006 07:50 pmI went home to see my mom and dad on Tuesday and Wednesday, my days off. I slept most of Tuesday while Alison moved out, and then I drove myself home with a car full of laundry, because mom is always so awesome about doing it. We took dad to dinner at the Cracker Barrel for a belated birthday/Father's Day celebration. He didn't really like the food, but we all had fun together, so that was good. On Wednesday mom took me down to Costco to get my eyes checked. My left eye got all worse again even though we thought my prescription would stabilize once I stopped growing. No such luck. Apparently doing what I do I strain my eyes or something. This may also have to do with BenTen's vampiric predilections to keep the apartment abysmally dark. Either way, the optometrist says I need reading glass, for whenever I read or work on my laptop, so I bought a pair, but they make me look like a dork. Not that I don't already look like a total freak in glasses anyway. And then mom and I went to the mall. I was looking for but one thing, a white dress I had seen the last time I was at the mall. I had a sneaking suspicion that there would be a sale, because all the stuff I want manages to be "so last season," but there I was, and there the dress was, and my wonderful powers of prediction were accurate, and so I got to try out my shiny new credit card, and I bought me a dress. It's a nice little white sun dress, which will go nice with the awful heat wave occurring up here in Cedar City. Of course, when winter comes I will need to invest in something to keep my shoulders warm. I modeled it for the others when I got back, and they approved. There you go.
Last night I worked with Joey over in the West House. He's a nice guy, if a bit chatty and opinionated, and apart from Ericka and Josh my first nights, he's the only one who's really deigned to train me, which sucks. And then the day staff whine that we night staff never know what we're doing. We would if someone trained us! Oh well, such is life. I do get paid today, which should be all in good time for when I go to Lake Powell with Del. I heard from Gamila last night on the way to work. She's going to Comic Con. I am very jealous. I hope she has fun, though! She must say Hello to Joss Whedon and the guy who does Megatokyo, and Yoshitaka Amano too. Wow.
I have tonight off, but BenTen works a double, so I won't see her. Hopefully I shall see Del when she gets home - if she's not too tired, which is entirely possible, as she worked last night as well. I'm working on getting two of my shifts covered so I can go to Powell with her, which ought to be very exciting indeed. I'm happy. I really want a tan.
Once I do all my checking up on the internet things I may or may not have missed, I shall go in search of grad school applications and scholarships. Wish me luck!
