Day 305: The real end this time
May. 6th, 2006 05:30 amWow. The semester is well and truly over. This week has been sort of harrowing. I got all my papers done, except the conference paper, but everything went in on time and I'm hoping that I get good grades.
BenTen's parents came and got her on Saturday. Her brother Alex came along as well, so I drove them around, and then headed back to my place to get things done. Sunday was quiet, and mostly involved me staying in my room and pretending to work but really, really not working. I can say "Bad Nagi" now, and Brad did often, but this hellish week is over. On Monday it was dead day, but rather than us throwing a party as we had plannned we bought Marty a birthday present instead. I had seen him at the cafeteria with his little radio, and remember that he had borrowed Rowsdower's MP3 player, so we all pooled in and bought him a nice one, 512MB with a memory card slot for another 512, because he's hoping to go to Europe this summer, and he'll need music to enjoy. That's going to be one of my tasks once I get home. I'll get my paper written, and then get all my music ready for this summer.
We rented a bunch of movies as well. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is hot, but Match Point was depressing. The only other Woody Allen movie I've seen is "Zelig," and they were very different to say the least. A bunch of us watched it together, yelled at the screen, and made homemade wrapping paper for Marty's present. He actually walked in on us while we were attacking things with markers and whatnot. We had to screech for him to leave the room, shove all evidence of gift and card under the bed, and then let him back in. Some of us played magic for the first time in a long time as well. Some of the other Scoobies met Jake, Nick's friend, and they seemed to like him. Jake is a really awesome friend for Nick. I like Jake lots.
Seirra and I ended up watching "Breakfast on Pluto" together, although Del was originally in on the plan. It was surprisingly good. A while ago, Del found me an article on Cillian Murphy, along with a picture, and it mentioned the film, which none of us had heard about. He's so damn pretty, and I reckoned he'd look good in drag. I was right. And here I thought only Japanese men could thwart me on the pretty front with such devastating grace and femininity. Not so. Cillian Murphy can run on those 70's platform shoes. I would have broken my neck. And he makes a great blonde. I think Del would have liked it, what with the all the poignancy and pain surrounding the Irish question that ran rampant in the movie. I had some stuff predicted, but overall it was such an awesome movie. I was so surprised. I recommend it to all who can deal with a dude in drag. The question of homosexuality was very downplayed. And Kitten's friend Charlie was so cute.
On Thursday I hung out with Aya lots, because her final wasn't till five. I was up till an ungodly hour on Thursday morning - once again I witnessed the sunrise - writing a paper, and then Aya was kind enough to accompany me to a print shop to get my Petersen paper printed. Those poor girls went through so much crap to get that paper printed. I almost hope I get a good grade just for them.
On Friday night a bunch of us went to see Silent Hill. The plot was dumb, but gack, every now and again the shadows still frighten me. For a while through the movie I was able to avoid being scared by putting all of Petersen's film analysis techniques to use. But he was right. Scary movies aren't scary without the sounds. If you get scared, don't close your eyes - plug your ears. For a while after that, weird noises freaked me out.
Today was the best day ever. Apart from freaking out and packing - and I'm awake now because I got the last of my packing done - we celebrated Marty's birthday. I dressed up cute to celebrate the end of the semester, and then we gathered all the Scoobies we could to celebrate his birthday. We sang to him and gave him his birthday card and present. Then we attempted to go see American Haunting. First we reckoned it wasn't playing after I checked online, and then Marty told us that the Fiddler Six was reopening and it would be there. We called the cinema and BenTen reported a half of two showing, so we ran errands - and ran into Professors Bishop and Petersen at the bookshop - and then ended up at the cinema. As it turns out, the half two showing isn only on weekends, and the next was at four. So we hung about the cinema parking lot playing catch with Josh's little nerf football until Del showed up. Then we went to taco maker Jake's and ate loads of food, most of which was surprisingly cheap. We laughed lots and talked lots. Afterwards we went to a park. I felt like a little kid, playing on the swings and the slide. I love swings. The day was sunny and beautiful, and it was great. We took loads of pictures and had so much fun. Then we went to see the film. It was based on Marty's favorite ghost legend, the Bell Witch, but the explanation for the witch was lame and annoyed us all. I think Marty ranted afterward. We played Jeopardy, as we have been faithfully all week - although we missed the Wednesday edition of House - and had loads of fun. Erin's parents arrived, and then Del's did, and we all said hi to the parents before going our separate ways. Josh and I took BenTen to work, and then I went to see Nick. I returned, got high on caffeine, and finished packing. My room is essentially bare. Go me.
I listened to my Windows Media Player entire library on random, and then realized that too many of my songs are depressing or not upbeat, so I turned on some of my boyband music, because music that's fun to dance to is fun to work to. And then I remembered that I saved that link to all those music videos, so I went and looked up boyband videos.
I am now indulging in an awful fit of boyband nostalgia.
It will be done by tomorrow, I promise.
I like music I can dance to, and don't listen to enough of it anymore.
End of the semester, and I feel fine.
A salute to my upcoming vacation...
