Day 291: A chorus of factory girls...
Mar. 20th, 2006 08:21 pmSo. Made it home from California just fine. The drive was long. Mom and I stopped over at the state line in Primm Valley and stayed the night at Buffalo Bill's. It took 45 minutes to check in, so I just sat in a corner reading Blade of the Immortal Manga and waiting. Hands got rolled over a few times by unobservant toters of luggage. Someone actually patted me on the head and said "sorry little girl" as he passed. The buffet was all right, and I spent most of the night relaxing. We made it into St. George fine the next day, took care of my car and some grocery shopping, and then went home.
Shannon came over for dinner, and we watched TV. I played some Jeopardy. Shannon and I watched the fourth Harry Potter movie together. Earlier in the day I had purchased The Outsiders DVD, and watched it. Shannon blew up - I don't think she took her meds that day - at me, freaked out and left. The less said about that, the better. Audi the chihuahua is ill or something, because she is losing fur at an unnatural pace. I don't think anyone fancies the sight of a bald chihuahua. I ended up calling Del and sobbing at her through the phone for a bit before things were all right. Needless to say, now the only person who has anything weird about Nick is my sister.
The others came down on Saturday about one, and we took off. The drive was fun. Having spent time with Alison in Colorado I was cool with her (not that I wasn't cool with her before, but it was fun because we knew each other better), and she drove in the city to stop us from dying. We met up with Alex, BenTen's brother, and had some Chinese before heading off to the House of Blues.
The concert was awesome. I loved it. There were three opening acts. The Utmost tried too hard to be Green Day, I think. The Dead Pets were the coolest. I am sooooo looking them up when we go to the UK this summer. I wasn't fond of the Briggs the last time I saw them. I even recognized some of the songs in their set from the last concert. Alex said they got naked onstage the last time he saw them, and I hoped it wouldn't happen again. Between the opening sets we sat around and talked, discussing the bands and having fun. Del had the misfortune of being near some drunken yuppies and their drunken bimbo acquaintances. Poor Alison was felt up every other time a guy pushed past her through the crowd. I was hit on by a fifteen-year-old girl and then a twelve-year-old boy. And then a strange man offered to pick me up - literally - so I could see. It was a well-intentioned offer, but I declined.
Flogging Molly is awesome. I love that band. They sound just as good onstage as they do on an album, and their energy is fantastic. The Dead Pets had some wild energy going, and it was even crazier when Flogging Molly hit the stage. They played all my favorite songs, and I sang along and jumped around and had a hell of a lot of fun. I'm with Del - if only it had lasted longer. And there was even an encore. BenTen and Alex hit the mosh pit, and Del got dragged in there at the end. She thought the guy with the banjo and mandolin - or was it the squeeze-box guy? - was cute, but I liked the bassist better. Nathen Maxwell is hot. Flogging Molly concerts are awesome because no matter how hard the music is, no matter how fast the crowd is, no matter how violent the mosh pit, there is a pervading positive atmosphere. At the end, the lead singer (David King?) told us all to take care of each other.
Brigdet, the violin/tin-whistle player sang this time, for Chorus of Factory Girls. She's the bomb - she's such a talented musician. If I was half as talented a musician as her I could die happy. After the concert, we hit up a McDonald's for cheap food, and then drove home. The others headed back up to Cedar, but I was tired, so Nick and I crashed at my house. Mom - love her to death - made us food the next day, and we came back.
Spring break was full of driving, and grad school scariness, but in the end it did me good, and there was no better way to end it than with a Flogging Molly concert. Cheers to Del for encouraging us to do one of the best things we could have, and cheers to Alex for helping us find tickets.
We're rebels of the sacred heart.

P.S. The break helped. The senioritis has passed. I will work hard and not procrastinate.
