Day 273: Onward and upward
Jan. 30th, 2006 08:27 pmToday I had my first test of the semester. In Fitz'z class. Yes, the class I'm auditing. Mock me if you will. I was totally sweating it out over the counterexamples for the categorical syllogisms. I know how to do them, but if you mess up on the variable representation, it sort of all goes downhill from there. I didn't finish the test half as quickly as I wanted to. And then Fitz stopped me and gave me the talk about why I'm taking this class. If the way I was half-panicked on the test was any indication, clearly my retaking of this class was a good thing. Lunch was boring, and I had no mail, but I met up with the gang and talked. That piano that was in the lounge was still in the cafeteria, and Victor sat down and played. Wow. When I told my mom, she was unsurprised at the piano skill, commenting on the stereotype that most Mormons are musically inclined. Then I told her that Victor was mostly gay.
Mom came up to visit, and she, Nick and I went out to dinner. We got to talk some, and catch up on family life and stuff. I got to hear about the antics of my relatives, and she got to hear about the antics of me and my friends. I also set her up an LJ account, because she's bored and needed a new hobby. Come talk to me as soon as you can, all of you, and I will give you the lowdown. But it was good talking to mom and seeing her again, and we are always grateful to not have to suffer through cafeteria food. She left, and Nick stayed with me a while as I did my Latin homework, but he was feeling sort of sick and so has dragged himself off to bed.
A few nights ago my muse tried to kick me out of bed and make me write, and I resisted. Clearly, fate has kicked me in the ass. Rowsdower stopped by while mom was here, and we talked about the conference. You know that volume of Lucifer that no one could find? It was in my other bookcase, the bookcase I use for textbooks rather than ordinary books. Once I have rounded up all those comic books I will scan all the images I need, read the primary texts - Foucault, Saussure, Derrida - see the French connection? - and write that paper of doom. I'm actually really jazzed for the conference. I'm nervous as hell, too, of course, but I still think the conference will be fun.
Today was warm as well, which I appreciated.
And I'm not so sick anymore.
