Day 169: Girls just want to have fun
Jun. 11th, 2005 07:21 pmMost people think girls want to have fun with boys and going shopping. To be perfectly honest, shopping with girls is not fun at all. In fact, it's generally detestable. There's no reason to try on each item of clothing in every size and color before you realize that nah, you don't really need it. I'm pretty good at the restraint thing as far as clothes go - in fact, I'm so good at it that once a year mom drags me out shopping for new clothes because I can't seem to procure them for myself. Today I'll admit, I indulged in a pretty black top from Hot Topic - which sort of hit the checkbook hard, but hey, I just got paid. I usually spend too much on books and music, so this is new. I'm feeling very patient about manga and whatnot right now. Although I am still itching about that X Japan DVD. Del, BenTen and I bought wedding gifts for the upcoming ceremony that makes the Pandanne an official union. We ran into Professor Tvordi (of the famous evil Tvordi papers) outside of Target. It was awesome talking to her - she's one of the coolest professors in the department. I didn't know that loads of girls in the department (and believe me, there are plenty of girls in the English department) find Professor Harris particularly dreamy. He's a nice guy, although Brit Lit II was kind of a drag. I'll bet his Victorian Women writers class is a lot better. I'm still holding off on Moorty and the Shakespearean class of doom, but Tvordi said if I wanted I could take an independent study of Shakespeare from her because she'll be teaching it when Moorty retires.
Still, we girls had fun shopping. BenTen found a very nice dress for the wedding. I need to make sure I still fit in the dress I want to wear to the wedding. Del found some cute shirts to wear, too. We went to the bookstore - where we checked out cute journals and drooled over the new Harry Potter book - and to the music store - where we sighed at their measly manga collection and cooed over the cute new anime plushies that they sell - and even treated ourselves to lunch at Ruby Tuesdays. I also showed them the letter and pictures from Niichan. Del says she'll write to him even if he doesn't really remember her. And I gave them their paper dolls.
After they left, we had dinner, and things got tense. Apparently Shaz is going nuts at work. She injured her arm but they didn't let her work modified duty until it was too late, and now she's working a two-person staff for what should be a four-person shift, and she wants to quit. I think any other time mom would just let her, but right now Sid's work hours are down because he's going to school, and they'll be screwed if she quits now. She wants to do a no-show in protest, but then she'll get fired and it'll be hard for her to find a new job because this is a small town. Mom's gone to talk to her on her dinner break, and she wanted to know if Dad or Sid would go with her. Both said no. Dad swears Mom needs to let Shaz and Sid make their own decisions, but hey, Mom's been dealing with Shaz longest and knows her best.
I'm hiding from it all like a coward, but I'm sure it'll come find me soon. I managed to get into the middle of mom and dad's marital spat earlier this week as a go-between. I reckon mom will come talk to me. Dad's already talked to me. He doesn't understand how Shaz works. Neither do I, but I at least trust that Mom does.
Well, life is still good.
Nagi est heureuse.
Bon soir!
