Yes. I know. Once again, Nagi has been slacking off in the most horrible ways possible when it comes to updating this thing. I've been slacking off so badly that BRAD is coming after me with a gun. After all, it was Brad who put me up to this. Sort of.
Last week was both a burden and a blessing. There's something about knowing there's a holiday around the corner to make even the most hellish of weeks bearable. I had three midterms. Del, Erin and I got together to study for the test, but after talking to each of them - and other students in the class - none of us are confident about our scores. On the one hand Mills will be pissed to holy hell if none of us scored well, but if ALL of us scored badly then he ought to rethink things a little, ne? Rodney and Rowsdower took off to a writing conference leaving BenTen (and in essence me as well) stranded and perhaps a little lonely. But we played a rousing game of D&D on Thursday night as a study break. It was SO worth it. It's been a while since I've played D&D and while I enjoy the intense character time I get with VtM, there's something immensely satisfying about hacking things up. Even if my dice were being snooty because I'd neglected them for so long. Friday was the day of the exams. The Brit Lit exam could have gone far worse as far as I'm concerned, but as soon as that was done I ran back to my room to write the midterm for Tvordi's class (that was a horrible paper and I'm ashamed to say that I wrote it, but oh well). Then I packed up everything and drove home - sort of like a maniac.
The drive to California was long and vaguely harrowing. It was midnight Utah time by the time we made it to Uncle Kurt's, but he and Aunt Andrea were awake when we got there. We stayed up and chatted for a bit before heading off to bed. Saturday was spent down in Mexico, in Tijuana. It's always fun to go down there and see what they have (and it's occasionally fun to barter even though no one is as good at it as dad is) but it's sort of annoying the way the vendors get in your face. We got some huaraches - I totally destory shoes in the soles, and huaraches have soles made of tire tread - if I wear those down I really am brutal on shoes. It was hot and a little tiring walking around, and the wait to get back across the border on foot was about half an hour. However, we scored and the trolley system went right by Seaport Village so we ate there and then looked around. It was cool. Sunday we spent at the mall really quickly - Nagi is now the proud owner of one of those foam DDR pads, so when Yutaro and Asuka come up we can play some serious DDR. We also hit Belmont Park - which Aunt Theresa had told us was out of commission - so Sid and I went on the rides and hit the beach. They were cheap rides and the roller coaster was old and wooden and rickety (80 years old) but it was just a load of wild fun. The night before mom made her obligatory visit to Grandpa Ray. That was seriously tense, even though the guy is almost completely senile and off his rocker to boot. We met up with Aunt Theresa and Uncle Alan and went out to dinner and then she showed us her desert turtles. She raises them - the same desert turtles you get fined $500 for killing here in Utah. The more I hear about my mom's family the more I'm impressed that she came out as normal as she did. On Monday we went to Sea World. That was awesome just because I love to see all the animals - the killer whales and the dolphins and the penguins. I love the sharks, too. Sid and I went on all the rides, and on one of them near the end - one of those water raft rides - we got totally drenched and were cold and wet the rest of the time, so we went back to Uncle Kurt's and dried off and got warm before going out for dinner.
Sometimes I think driving is more exhausting than walking. I even played DDR at a couple of arcades after insane walking and was fine, but the car ride back was just mind-numbing. Poor mom also lost a lens out of her glasses, so she had to wear her prescription sunglasses if she wanted to see anything. We managed to find an oriental market, so right now I'm sated on steam buns and sesame treats. To cram all that into three days was intense but fun, and now I can just...relax...
