After last night's harrowing experience with the leet pixy stix of doom I made it to bed at a reasonable time anyway. This morning I was up and out of bed by half past nine. I had two out of three papers done before eleven a.m., had the other done by two p.m., did my laundry, spruced my room up for cleaning checks and even got me in a nap. Brad would have been so proud. Sometime during the day I got it into my head that I wanted to go to Mari Gras just for the dance - with the delinquent notion of dancing with a few hot Japanese bishonen - and so I called Del and she said she was going and I agreed to meet her there. I went to supper, then wasted some time in my room.

Somehow BenTen and I ended up in the den having bad kendo bouts. I won mostly because she doesn't like to hit me and because everyone else gave ground. I need to practice a lot more, that's for sure, but it was a load of fun, and sometime in that era I managed to convince both Erin and BenTen to go to the dance with me. It's the girliest I've been in a while. We got dressed up and did each other's hair and make-up - yes, I wore make-up - and so we went.

We ended up doing way more Karaoke than is good for us. We met up with Del, and eventually Aya and Panda and the Cub (we're rooting for you two, BTW, Del!) and then the dance came.

BenTen backed out pretty early, but I totally understand why. Del, the poor dear being ill, left after a good bout of dancing. I'm impressed that she actually wanted to go into the crowd. Erin and I danced on our own for a bit before we ran into Aya, Panda and the Cub by chance. We danced with them for a while, but then the Cub ran off with some friends and Aya and Panda went home, so it was just Erin and me again. I'm impressed that she stuck with it so long, to be honest. We lasted all the way to three a.m. when the dance ended. Somewhere in the last half hour some poor, well-meaning white boy danced with us. He wanted to know if he was dancing right. While there technically is noright or wrong way to dance, I guess, he just wasn't cut out for hip-hop. I don't think he had any rhythm, but he was nice enough. He tried to dirty dance a couple of times, but he didn't know how to move his hips. I know I'm not one to talk, but I'd have sworn that the poor fella was standard Utah Mormon virgin the way he danced. Even cowboys have some rhythm from their country music. He tried, and we attempted to give him tips, but to no avail. Del, despite what she thinks, actually has good rhythm.

Erin and I lasted to the final song and more or less made a break for it out of one of the back doors. It took the poor fella a bit to catch up with us, but by the time he'd offered to walk us home we were practically at the dorms. In hindsight I reckon we could've gone easier on him, but I had fun.

My legs hurt, and not in the standard DDR way - they hurt in the been dancing all night with all my leg muscles way. I don't think much of hip hop, and while you can dance to it in the end it's all the same. At first I didn't know any of the songs, but in the end they played some hip hop stuff I knew. The final song was zoot suit riot, too. I was sorta sad that we didn't get to do it all. They really need to put more variety into that music. Maybe some trance or techno or something. I missed my Japanese music while I danced.

But it felt good to get out there and just purge some energy. I shall sleep well tonight.
