Phototherapy in and of itself isn't painful, but Olivia had to be stripped down to her diaper and lay under some UV lights for ages with annoying little goggles on, and of course she was cold and lonely and cried the whole time. Eventually we rigged it so she could lie on a bed beside one of us with the lights beside the bed and shining on her, but it was still generally unpleasant.
