Day 1277: Return of the Snow Panda
Work this week was really chill. Mostly just team meetings and home visits, plus one day of court for drug court, which was also pretty chill.
In fact, I had most of Wednesday off, and there was crazy snow - shoveled snow for two hours one day - so Cody and I skipped work and went snowboarding for most of the day. I bought my own boots and goggles and I still have Kieran's board from high school, and Cody stuck with me and was super patient about helping me.
Friday was also pretty chill, just my work party for the holiday season. We had a lot of fun. Played some word games - I won the first one on sheer dint of speed - and then we had a white elephant gift exchange, complete with gift-stealing and the giving of comical gifts (a book translated from Japanese about crafts to make from fur harvested from your pet cats), and our pretty terrible playing of the tube bells my one boss has. Super LOLs. Apparently the newest lawyer in the office is also a concert pianist and we managed to sing the song in key as a group, but in a different key from the tube chimes. There was lots of good food and talking and fun.
Saturday we hit the slopes again. It was less snowy and so the snow was less powdery, but I did better about not falling on my face so much as I got off the lift, and I am slowly learning to master the art of the toe edge. If I start on my toe edge, I can transition to my heel edge, but trying to transition the opposite way inevitably leads to me falling on my face. Cody stuck with me before lunch, and then after lunch he and Brent hit the more complicated runs, which was fine. I practiced my toe edge on my own.
Afterwards we went out for burgers, and ran into my boss, which was kinda fun. Everything thinks she's scary, but she's a super nice lady.
Quite possibly the funnest thing for me this week, though, was having a live-writing session with my friend Bru. I asked for her help in looking over a story I'd started but hadn't finished, and she ended up reading it while I was still writing it, and then she watched - over Google Docs - while I finished it, egging me on all the while. It was super fun! And motivating. Like - she's watching. Gotta type fast.
This week has generally been cold and chilly and full of snow and scary driving, but I have had fun. I'm slowly getting back into the swing of things at work - this next week is slated to be insane, with me bouncing between two courts like a pinball - and getting back into the routine of the gym and the like, so it's all good.
Cody and I are making a concerted effort to eat more healthy and cook more, so we've started doing a weekly menu so we know what to shop for. Here's to really getting into the new year!
