Day 809: Jade

The holiday weekend was marked with random moments of oddness and stillness punctuated by happiness over the stupidest things.

Sunday was a good day. Fast Sunday is always good times, and once again, the Sisters cleaned house. We're going to have to claim a prize or something from the Elders eventually, even though we outnumber them so technically we should have some sort of handicap going on. Break the fast was good times, and then I got letters written, talked to my family. I like talking to my family.

Monday was an interesting day. Went shopping at Walmart with Levi to grab food for the big FHE Labor Day barbecue. I got there early to pick up some random supplies. (Despite my hair being short[er], I still go through more conditioner than I think I ought so I had to buy more. Picked a new, less fruity scent.) Then Levi got there, and we were as efficient as possible. Pretty much everyone who saw us was pretty sure we were squabbling newlyweds or something, since we were in turns indecisive and then brusque. I thought it was kinda funny. After I got home, I finished decorating letters and got them ready to send out (no wax seals this time, folks). Then Stephen (the new med student and allegedly my new home teacher) and I car-pooled down to the Bishop's storehouse to get some work done. I don't have a crush on Stephen, don't get me wrong, but he's just a good guy. He's nice and smart and being around him just makes me feel happy. He's got a good spirit about him.

We got lots of good work done at the Storehouse - a whole bunch of us showed up, but not too many orders were sent in, so we weren't there the full two hours. Bishop Dallon showed up in jeans and a t-shirt, more casual than I've ever seen him, and when he first stepped into the room, I only saw him out of the corner of my eye, and I thought he was one of the skinny emo-esque boys who sits on the very back row. Weird moment. Paul the dentist was there; he and his girlfriend (Julie?) were at church the day before, and it's pretty awesome to see them again.

After the storehouse I went home and had lunch, finished off the second season of Blood Ties (in typical me fashion, I find a show I like after it's been cancelled), and then made a batch of mini-muffins for today. I read and wrote and goofed off a lot. Then I went to FHE. I taught the lesson since I'd welched on finding a teacher. Levi was really awesome about getting the cooking going (he got his buddy Corey to help cook; I was a little disappointed Tom didn't show up too), and Chelsea helped set up tables and whatnot. We had pretty good times. I hung back until everyone else had eaten before getting food. I was in...a weird mood. Peter called me a wall-flower; I explained that I was in "off-mode". Mostly I was...off. My game. Whatever you'd like to call it. Angela showed up, which was good.

While the others were out back playing volleyball, we girls got Ladies' Night in the World of Darkness up and running. I keep forgetting my players are raw neophytes and aren't quite as into mythology and weirdness as my usual batch of kids, so things like "tetragrammaton" and the Triangle of Solomon don't mean much to them. My storyline is getting a little twisted, but I'll have it straightened out soon. I hope they understand that this is going to be a very long quest. Who knows when it'll be done. In a fit of teenage girlishness, which made Angela just sort of smile in exasperation (she was super awesome about sticking around and helping us clean), I encouraged Korina to go out and ask someone to the dance. Because we're having a girls' choice dance, and even though the dance isn't until November, we girls are proactive about this dating thing, so we're making our reservations in advance. Will got asked by a girl who has a crazy crush on him, and I'm so proud of her for being brave (she's very shy), and I'm glad he said yes. I asked Dental Student Dave because, well, he's nice, and a good dancer, and pretty easy on the eyes, and it'd be a good chance to get to know him better. Korina decided to ask Zach the new law student to the dance, and apparently he said yes. Zach is a cool kid; he used to swim for BYU, and he also has a very lovely singing voice. It makes me happy to see my friends happy.

After the game - we had some interlopers, who watched, which was a bit bizarre, but I got over it - I went home and checked with friends online. I got to talk to Sei, and it made me happy to see that she's doing better. Daniel seems miserable still, and I cannot blame him, so we chatted a bit. I also chatted with Mom some, and Mal. To my delight, I found news on two of my favorite bands. When I was a teeny tiny teenybopper of a girl, I loved boybands and had a lot fun collecting random ones from around the world (so for I've got English, Irish, American, German, Japanese, Korean, and Dutch going for me). I learned that my favorite boyband (yes, I confess, the Backstreet Boys) is releasing a new album this year. That makes me happy, because I've seriously dug the songs on their last two albums. The best news of all, though, is this: Sugizo joined X Japan. I think he's a rockin' awesome guitarist, but he's also a really excellent violinist to boot, so now he and Yoshiki play some of the most beautiful music together. I caught some YouTube footage of their latest shows, and just...wow. I knew there was a reason they're my favorite band.

So far the morning has been good - we practiced some, and now I'm free till Institute.

I plan on getting my fiction writing done now so I can write my detention hearing speech and practice it tonight.

Yay for X Japan.
