Day 885: The End of Spring

It was the end of spring in more than one way - Thursday was near the end of Spring Break, and it was the end of spring weather also. When I woke up it was raining, and Pat and I taught at the school. He used a Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus hypothetical, and I went Twilight, because the day before Kim recommended it and it made sense to my illness-fogged brain. After we got done teaching, it started to flippin' well snow, which I did not appreciate at all. I managed to get some small-time internet writing done (read: Blue Logos, Master & Madness, Ficly, and Heavy Noir) and catch up on the episodes of White Collar (the season finale for which was amazing, and also Matt Bomer needs to be shirtless more often) and Castle that I'd missed. Then I went in for my shift at the legal clinic, which was both mind-numbing, entertaining, and sad. A woman had an emotional breakdown over the phone at me because a judge had been mean to her in open court, and her neighbor had been racist to her. Even though she was crazy and an intake call really shouldn't last for half an hour, the saddest thing was hearing her sob into the phone, "I'm not a n*****" over and over again. I felt so bad for her, but apparently she's applied before and been a little flaky and we're not likely to take her on again.

After I got done with the clinic I met up with Dan and Angela and we spoke about what we're going to do with the JRCLS and we also planned to go to the movies. Then I went out with the sister missionaries and met a nice Chinese boy named Peter (who was surprised that I could write Chinese) and then I went skirt shopping and then I went to bellydancing, which was pretty darn awesome. Mayumi, the Japanese ballerina, came again, and she's a great dancer, has natural grace, but bellydancing is so different from ballet (but not so different from hula) that she's having a bit of a hard time, but she's brave and persistent and I'm going to be sad when she goes back to Japan.

Afterwards I came home and talked to people and did some writing and reading and tatting and went to bed.

I hauled myself out of bed this morning to witness for Melilli (who still thinks my hair is awesome) and afterwards I wrote again waiting for Angela to get off work. Dan said he couldn't make it to the movies, so Angela and I set off separately. Unfortunately, I'd misdirected her to the theatre. Luckily for me, I have GPS on my phone, so I found the theatre (two bucks a ticket! woohoo!) and I talked Angela there. We went to see Invictus because, well, I like Matt Damon. And it was an awesome movie. Now, I'm not much one for inspirational sports movies, but this one was perfect - it had Nelson Mandela, a shirtless Matt Damon, and all the brutal awesomeness of rugby (including the New Zealand All Blacks doing the haka). The movie was happy and uplifting and made me miss rugby fiercely (including being hooker for Patrick the pretty Canadian boy, which sounds all wrong, but it's a crazy rush, engaging in a scrum). Afterwards I checked my phone, and I had voicemail from Stephen!

See, the Friday before he left he told me he had to check his calendar. When I reported this to my girls, they told me it was a sign of rejection, so I was sad. I got all determined yesterday and called Stephen to ask if he had checked his calendar, and hours after I'd left that particular voice message I received a text that was him apologizing and asking which date, which I was cautiously hopeful about.

I listened to the voicemail, and he apologized again for taking so long to get back to me, but he said he'd go with me! I jumped up and down like a giddy schoolgirl and likely frightened some of the elderly matrons around me, so I called him back and we talked and he said he'd pick me up and everything. So of course I called my mom and told her and...yeah. Angela and I were crazy hungry, so we went for food, and then arranged to get together at my place for some training even though ninjitsu wasn't on tonight. I hung out and watched Glee and tatted until Angela showed up, and we hit my teeny tiny gym on the second floor, and I ran her through her rank requirements. It was a good review for me, and a lot of fun. I also taught her some basic ground fighting, which was good for her to learn. Afterwards we retreated to my flat to watch Glee, teach her how to tie her belt, and then we watched Merlin 1x02 with the commentary while I hemmed her uniform pants (because for all my ninja aspirations, I am very domestic in some very strange ways).

This entire week has been busy, and it hasn't felt like much of a break at all, but I've done my best to relax and have fun.

Also, I am kinda crazy in love with my laptop.
