Day 552: Weekend and New Year Madness
Because there is always madness in my life.
As mentioned in a previous post, I ran into Russell on lunch break from shoveling gravel. He mentioned Justin was coming down. Justin came down on Saturday, which I had spent reading old fiction I'd written, watching Sleeping Beauty, and being a general louse. Justin called and said he and Russell would make plans and then call back. In typical Russell fashion, he merely showed up at the house instead of calling. The dogs were unhappy at the intruders, so we headed out to go rock climbing. It was fun. We rapelled down, and then climbed up, then moved onto a harder climb. Those two boys are really into their climbing. Russell was especially protective of his climbing gear. It was interesting to watch them show off for each other (and probably me). We ran into some other climbers.
That evening Russell had a Risk war with his family, so Justin swung by after supper and played Scattegories with me, Mum, and Dad. It was insane. Justin was good. Mum, Dad, and I were on some weird roll together, though. On one round, Mum and I both guessed "seafoam green" for a color. On another round, Dad and I both guessed "Rwanda" for a country (I was sure everyone else would go for Russia). It was fun and wild, and we shouted at each other a lot, but it was all in good spirit. Dad and I tied for the lead, I think. Then Justin and I watched Casino Royale while my parents retired, unsubtly, to the other end of the house.
My mother, Russell, or both, pounced on me every other moment I was alone to see if I still fancied Justin. I caught them trying to pounce on him as well. Poor kid. We settled things between us while Mum and Russell argued about putting in kitchen lights. Even after I came home from Cedar, Mum pestered me about Justin again. I hate talking about my feelings. I also find it irrational (though I know emotions are irrational) for people to ask me to commit to a relationship two years down the road to a man I don't really know anymore. It irked me to no end every time someone demanded an answer. I refused to give one, and I stand by my decision. Something in me rebels furiously - chest constricts, fire sweeps through me, murderous thoughts cloud my mind - every time someone wants to know how I feel about Justin. As far as I can tell, the only one who really deserves to know that is him.
I should stop thinking about that whole mess now. It's ticking me off.
On a lighter note, New Year's Eve was spent in Cedar City. I drove up Sunday evening after supper. Ericka had to work, but Megan was there. I hadn't seen her in months. We hung out, played cards, and watched Stardust with Chani and Alina. Megan and I had good girl talk. It was as if she had never left, as if we were still roommates. I'd heard of this phenomenon, where people had drifted onto different paths and saw each other infrequently, but when they came together their friendship picked up right where it had left off. I liked that. Megan and I both liked that, and were glad that we could remain friends like that. She gave me a copy of the Dead Poets Society on DVD, because we're both lit nerds and have grand memories of watching that movie together. Stardust was a great movie, and Megan and I made terrible Neil jokes through the whole thing.
The next day we slept in, then planned the party. Alina was at work, so it was just me, Megan, Ericka, and Chani. We bought food supplies and make-up, then went nuts cleaning the place. Aaron and his girlfriend Amanda came over early (of course the Clan was running on Moytura time and was horrifically late), and they got to watch us run around and get dolled up. I'd never have turned into a proper girl for the party without my friends. Del did my make-up, because she is genius at it. Chani did my hair. Apparently she'd been dying to play with it since we met, and we were both absurdly grateful to each other for it. Then Ericka and I arranged the CPA (certified public assassins) game.
Lots of people came - Aaron and Amanda, Trapp and the Other Alina, Nate, Yvonia and their little girl Keisha Rose, Samurai Bry, Jesse, Logan, TJ, and Corey. Nate ended up winning the CPA game, which ended dramatically in a double kill between Logan and Nate (Nate had the most kills cards). I didn't participate in the killing as I had the kill list and that would be unfair. We played a sober game of I've Never with the fake bubbly. As I'm not nearly corrupt as I could be I spent most of the game pouring drinks (Jesse injured himself helping get a bottle open). At midnight we went mad with sparklers, poppers, streamers, and other party noisemakers. Keisha Rose was a bit upset, but we had fun. Afterwards, Trapp and Other Alina, Aaron and Amanda took off. A nerf gun war devolved between Samurai Bry, Logan, Corey, Jesse, and occasionally Alina, with constantly shifting alliances and weapon trades. I ended up collecting nerf darts between bouts of shooting and acting as an arms dealer for whichever side bribed me best. (I'll admit I was a girlface and gave up a whole lot of darts to Jesse because he offered up a "sexydance".)
Corey drifted out after that, and Alina fell asleep, which left Bry to tell ghost stories and Jesse to entertain us with his skill in accents and monologues from his role in the play The Pillow Man. We were up till five in the morning like a bunch of loons, but it was wonderful.
The best part of the night was probably after the assassin game. I was chilling with Logan in the kitchen and I saw a whole load of Moytura boys march by and head into one of the back rooms with a strange sense of purpose in their faces. When Logan dared to peek back he shuddered and advised me not to look, I heeded his advice. Several moments later, Nate, Jesse, Aaron, TJ, and Corey burst from the back room in nothing but their underwear (nothing but a cup for Corey) and began grinding on a prudish, offended, terrified Ericka. She staved them off by shooting a party popper at them. I ducked and hid my eyes at first, then realized that I'd never have the chance again and took a picture.
There was also a dangerous incident during the gunfight wherein Alina, Megan, and I moved Jesse's "corpse" to the back room. Alina mostly nearly pulled off Jesse's jeans and prodded him where he was already wounded. Megan did a lot of the heavy dragging. I saved Jesse from being brained against the doorframe. I was impressed at my own reflexes. I think DDR really has helped.
The next day, Aaron came over to help us clean up (for there had also been silly string). Afterwards he and I sat around eating crackers, spinach dip, cheese dip, and talking about his plans for the military, and our shared ethnic history. We also played some Baldur's Gate and watched some Family Guy. Then I came back home to my parents for supper. I had to laugh at the wistful way Aaron said he wouldn't want to miss supper at my house either.
Today was fun and lazy. Mom got me a gift certificate for a facial, so we both went in and got them done. It was strangely relaxing. I liked getting a massage. I should get another massage. We also went by the comic store so I could buy me some Munchkin (I got me some Munchkin Bites, as well as some Munchkin Fu, and some Munchkin Cthulhu). I read the last of the Chronicles of Prydain, and the last of the Kabuki series I have, and then lazed around some more. I conned my parents into playing some Munchkin with me, and then they watched TV while I did work for Brad.
All in all, it's been an excellent couple of days.
I will upload pictures when I can, and send emails to those who care.
It was awesome, seeing Megan again. We read Postsecrets, and even the ones in French which we were proud to say we could translate. Me, Megan, and Ericka will always be the weird sisters of Macbeth Manor.
